The Artist on "Glass"

On the painting Glass

Many artists have been fascinated by the beauty of glass. By the way that in art, it is in reflections and refractions of a world through or beyond the glass, that lies the difference between its visibility and invisibility. In Glass, it is forms other than the glass itself, recreated in the colors of the reflected light, that tell us the very form of the glass. Glass reflections are of the world around, but the glass itself is part of that world, and so in Glass there are even reflections of reflections to be seen. Look carefully, and in the glass you can see the sky, the clouds, the Sun, the one source of all the light, and even the artist. But it is the glass itself that gives this reflected world new colour and form.
